Obviously, considering the number of twists in the story, the movie’s made to be seen twice. But I won’t change my verdict: too cold, too distant, too illustrative. I was gonna write that Fele Martínez and Gael García Bernal aren’t quite the same as Victoria Abril and Marisa Paredes, but Martínez didn’t prevent Los Amantes del Círculo Polar from being moving, and there’s no reason to doubt Bernal’s talents.
One thing bugs me: if Angel could fuck, or at least seriously tease, the old Berenguer, why is he initially so cold with Enrique, risking being discovered? Did the script change in the middle of production, or does it just favor suspense over coherence?
