Garoo

My name is Cédric Bozzi and this is my blog. Well… mostly, this is a rerun of all my tweets and the photos I publish on Instagram, but sometimes there might be an actual article or two.

I make websites and iPhone apps, try my best to own one of every item in Apple’s current product lineup, spend my entire life on the internet, and am looking for a flat in Paris.

Sur Twitter : @garoo, @ff00aa and @bewarethefrog — plus @garoodotnet which notifies of new articles on this blog.

My main computer has been a 20-inch iMac G5 since 2005 (before they added the iSight — the one that’s user-serviceable and has power supply issues). It’s still mostly usable, thanks to OS X’s tradition of each version performing better than the previous one, but it’s beginning to show its age. In a little while I intend to replace the iMac with a uniplastic MacBook plus external screen (not a Cinema Display, I’ll never be that rich).

The iMac connected to the awesome Apple aluminum keyboard (wired, I think wireless peripherals are stupid on the desktop — not to mention the missing number keys in that case), a Wacom Graphire4 tablet (a must-have for any kind of design work, even though I can’t draw), and a very old Microsoft Trackball Optical that’s going to make me cry when it finally die (unless I have a MacBook by then, or Apple finally releases an external trackpad).

I also bought a Mac mini (1.66GHz Core Duo, 1GB RAM, 40GB HDD) with the excuse that I needed an Intel machine to test my sites on Internet Explorer, and I’m using it for just that, and to host my 130GB iTunes library on redundant external drives.

I have a bunch of external drives of various types, and strongly recommend Antec MX-1 EC enclosures<.a> — you’re not going to travel with it, but the build quality is good, and it’s silent yet has a fan. All those external drives without fans make me want to kill kittens.

I also have a white 16GB iPhone 3G (my carrier had a nice offer to upgrade from iPhone to iPhone 3G, but didn’t for the 3GS, so I’m waiting to get the fourth generation this summer) and an Xbox 360 with a 20GB hard drive (it has already red-ringed once, of course).

I spend most of my time between Safari, Mail, and a home-made Google Reader client (basically a simple hybrid of a web browser and a local Instapaper). I use Adium for communications, and for Twitter I have Echofon on my iMac (simple, light, functional) and Tweetie on my Mac mini (because I sometimes need to reply to a tweet from another account than the one that read it). For work: Adobe CS4, TextWrangler, Transmit, Terminal.

When it comes to customization and accessories, I can’t live without Sokusei (my very own clone of Quicksilver), Proxi for shortcuts and customization, and 1Password. I also use iStat Menus, Qu-s, Dropbox (which I refuse to actively recommend until they deign to handle Mac resource forks), Quicksilver (until I add filesystem navigation to Sokusei), and… a lot of other stuff, I’m always tinkering with new utilities. Plus, on the Mini, VirtualBox (it’s free and perfectly sufficient for my needs) and iTunes for music and podcasts.

On my iPhone, a lot of apps, most of them free, but the essentials are Tweetie, Facebook, Dropbox, Sol Free, Orba , Zen Bound and, of course, my own apps: Snap Filters, Unicode, Web is Pink.
