Bienvenue !
Google’s light fields of the space shuttle at the Smithsonian are incredible — it’s weird to see that much detail and texture in a VR headset. But at the same time it’s terribly frustrating that you can’t actually move.
In light of what they’ve done with Go, and assuming Project Santa Cruz runs on an Snapdragon 845, the standalone Rift should be more than capable of ending consumer-level PC VR. From that point on, I suspect PCs will be for enterprise / LBE / pro-authoring apps only.
Demoing some of the handwriting gestures 😊✍️ #WindowsInsiders #WindowsInk
Have you tried using the handwriting panel in the lastest builds?
Lapis legit, an Indonesian-Dutch fusion dessert, features 18 to 30 individually baked layers of spiced butter, sugar, and egg yolk. Bakers from across the islands prepare the dessert in a square pan, broiling each layer before adding the next. The result? This colorful concoction
Pictures look awful when you zoom in. Of course that doesn’t matter if you’re just posting to your Instagram story, but then for that usage they would also look fine without any noise reduction, so what’s the point? Who benefits?
A friend and I both recently switched to more recent iPhones and I am appalled by the amount of noise reduction in photos — it never seemed that bad to me on iPhone 6. Compounded of course, and that part’s not new, by the system app’s refusal to shoot or even display RAW images.
my favorite Mensa fact is that both founders ended up hating Mensa, the first hating it because he didn’t know poor people were allowed to be smart and the second hating it because he had to find out the hard way that the kind of people who would join a high-IQ society are dorks
Why do VR controllers insist on putting icons on their buttons instead of giving each button a unique tactile shape? It’s almost impossible to tell the user “press the A button”, but would be really easy to tell them “press the button that feels like this icon looks.”

Unpopular opinion: the way the media covered Hillary Clinton’s emails did much more to make Donald Trump president than anything Cambridge Analytica, or even Facebook, did. And it was less defensible on the merits.
On the one hand, Horizon Zero Dawn is at 20€ on PSN… on the other, my controller has stopped working with the console but connects to the computer, which makes me worry that the PS4’s wireless is dead and I’m gonna have bigger problems than HZD’s price.
Also played DubWars which is a very fun concept: a twin-stick space shooter where you don’t control your weapons — they’re synced with the music. I’m not good (or, again, patient) enough to even finish the first stage but I really like the idea.

I’d forgotten how dumb it is that there are two levels of 3D Touch on the iPhone’s screen. Thank god Instagram is smart enough to have the same action on long-press and semi-push, even if that’s not Apple’s UX recommendation.
I wasn’t enthusiastic about getting an iPhone with a white face, but it works out fine with grayscale mode — even more paper-like. Shame it doesn’t have True Tone.
Since I’m evidently done with my Apple boycott I just bought a used 7 Plus and 1) I’m in love with the live photo effects and 2) I immediately started thinking about remaking my apps with ARKit goddammit sometimes being a developer means you just can’t help yourself.
Looking at the Magic Leap SDK would be silly when there’s already so much I can do with the hardware I actually own. Looking at the Magic Leap SDK would be silly when there’s already so much I can do with the hardware I actually own. Looking at the Magic Leap SDK would be silly w
Mobile hardware wasn’t quite up to the task in 2009, but you could pretty easily and cheaply have a decent phone or tablet running webOS in 2018. Oh, be still, my heart.
George Orwell, 1984.
If Counterpart were on HBO instead of Starz it would be the buzz show of the moment. Spectacularly good.
I love this aqua version of the WWDC 2018 graphic @deplaatjesmaker made. Serious throwback.
The truth is Facebook not only allowed but facilitated data sweeps of your friends by shady apps since it was made.
Do you know how many co’s harvested & sold detailed profiles on you?
How many friends traded your data to play FarmVille or find out which Kardashian they are?
I’ve added a third-party smart plug to my Philips Hue setup (to control a big, bright LED panel) and the relay’s mechanical noise really bothers me. Reminds me every time of a capacitor burning out or a hard drive crashing, and takes a lot away from the electronic magic.

Google Lens, you had one job.
This high-speed Eurostar train used to speed its way through the Channel Tunnel, but now lies abandoned in France. Since 2016, many of these trains have been scrapped. This train is deemed officially in storage. … though the word “abandoned” seems more appropriate
The work that CA is accused of doing—building “psychographic profiles” based on demographics and online behavior in order to figure out how to segment and market to a vulnerable population—is a succinct description of how Facebook makes money.
Emoji are a globalist conspiracy to make English speaking programmers care about Unicode.
Am I doing something wrong or is there seriously just one Celsius style for Instagram’s weather sticker?
You can tell FB’s algorithm changes kicked in because all the partisan meme factories immediately switched from “like and share” to “type yes”
In completely unrelated news, my right ear is a bit sore when I have the AirPod in (from all the double-tapping to fast-forward through podcasts).
Established scientifically with the help of a friend — by comparing verbal impressions and listening to leakage in a crowded McDonald’s — that my ears are optimally formed for AirPods and it would have been a crime not to buy them.
You can have the best password hygiene in the world, but you will one day type your password into a text message with your friends and nothing will save you.
I haven’t been able to use my Watch in five days because I’m away from home and Apple never deigned to make a portable charger that just plugs into a Lightning cable.
It’s gonna be kinda shit and I’ll quickly be tired of it but I can’t possibly not try it, can I — nor can almost anyone else.
Maintenant y’a Bertrand Cantat
“People are sick of the Federal Reserve, sick of bailouts, sick of inflation. You know what we need? Internet money with the usability of PGP and the stability of BART service”
AGE 9: I’m going to be an astronaut!
AGE 17: I’m going to be an industrial designer!
AGE 31: I’m going to sit in a shanty by the sea and repair nets while mumbling to myself. ill be ostracized in the village
I really love the extremely awesome “hostage demand” genre of negative steam reviews.
I’ve read conflicting info on whether the iPhone uses the battery while the cable is plugged in but, if this is true, it’s a pretty important thing to know.
#SorryToBotherYou but here’s the trailer
The marshmallow game - where children are promised two marshmallows later if they deny themselves the pleasure of one now - is premised on enough trust in authority that you believe there won’t be zero marshmallows later.
What we know is that an average person in poverty will perform on an IQ test about as well as a middle-class person would be expected to perform after missing a night and a half of sleep. That’s called “cognitive load.”
They aren’t “fakes.” They are real diamonds. It just turns out it is pretty simple to grow this valueless rock that some company tricked people into associating with marriage.
I really want a “tinder but for yelp” app. People keep asking me to pick dinner and brunch spots and I generally find this to be too much work and anxiety. I just want to mindlessly swipe until I find something.

But Swarm’s 0.25U satellites were too small for the FCC, which denied launch permission citing concerns about tracking and collision avoidance. Apparently, Swarm launched anyway. I think this would be the first unauthorized launch of commercial satellites ever.
Remember that the phrase “unskilled labor“ was coined to make you think that you and your job make you superior to people who do very necessary work within the structures of our society.
“The Japan business unit launches an average of 100 new products a year, and many times more are put to the test behind the scenes. You can’t fall behind the rapid product cycle in Japan.”
