Garoo

31 mai 2009

Just realized I seem to write “fuck” much more often in my blog since I’ve started watching The Wire.

Also, I want to shoot people dead.

Omar never swears. How cool is that?

garoo, il y a 5 ans :

Hadn\'t noticed that he actually _never_ swore (Google confirms it).

But he cool all right.

Frozen to the Touch, il y a 5 ans :

hehe.

I keep saying "a'ight" to people, but I don't think I'm very convincing.

But many of the actors are theatre actres from London (I need to find an interview of Idris Elba au naturel), so you should be at least halfway there :)

rhino75, il y a 5 ans :

:) ) true. But your U.S. accent is still better than mine. There's a good one of Idris in all his London-accented glory on YouTube called (perhaps unimaginatively) Idris Elba Interview on the account of one Omar Little. ..

Right. He doesn\'t sound very recognizably British to me, like Chuck Bass does in interviews. And he doesn\'t feel much nicer than Stringer Bell, either :)

rhino75, il y a 5 ans :

I had to check both, obviously. And you're right - Westwick's British accent is definitely stronger, he's got that great drawl going on. It IS a bit disappointing that Idris seems much more interesting as Stringer Bell than as himself - but Omar is still the star of the show for me :)

Interesting? Isn't he mostly one-note scary? :) Regardless of the drug dealing and assassinating, even in The Office it felt like he would break your neck if you looked at him funny. I wouldn't want to meet him, whether in- or off-character :)

Yeah, it's hard to believe that Omar is inspired from real-life characters rather than just a white man's fantasy of a gay cowboy injected into the show to make it cooler and/or more relatable :)

garoo, il y a 5 ans :

But watching the Idris Elba interview out of context you'd immediately tell he's British?

rhino75, il y a 5 ans :

hah, you're such a wuss! :)) Yeah, Idris sounds like a Londoner to me, especially when he says "wiv" instead of "with". I now want to go to Baltimore - anywhere that inspired both "Hairspray" and "The Wire" has got to be completely f*cked up (in a good way) :))

Just watched it again to catch it and (1) still don't see it, I guess I'm only familiar with the more stereotypical English accents and (2) damn I don't like that guy, I get an awful vibe from him and I'm glad I saw him in The Office first so I'm able to say it's not just because of his character :)

Yeah, the show makes me want to visit Baldmore like I want to visit Guantanamo. That is, not at all.
