Garoo Network — version 1882.0

Not that the way a blog looks matters anymore (which is why that layout is slightly unfinished as far as the header is concerned), but here’s the second phase of my adding (again) quick links to the blog: displaying a sidebar (again) so that I can theoretically (again) post a bit more often.

Want to know when I post new content to my blog? It's a simple as registering for free to an RSS aggregator (Feedly, NewsBlur, Inoreader, …) and adding www.garoo.net to your feeds (or www.garoo.net if you want to subscribe to all my topics). We don't need newsletters, and we don't need Twitter; RSS still exists.

I'm not sure I'm impressed with this.

I thought your site(s) stood out by managing to be both graphically/visually interesting and technically non-trivial (cross-domain, bi-lingual) when the rest of the world settled for no-nonsense layouts. I wouldn't say this seems technically bad but it feels more dull/mainstream. Not sure it'd register when surfing past.

Well, I wouldn't say this site has had particularly impressive visuals for a while... the previous version felt much more generic to me; at least this one feels more "mine," with large swaths of gray :) But I agree that it lacks some extra oomph, and I do intend to revisit it when I feel more inspired.
You could say that this is a technical preview, because I had to rewrite a lot of stuff to make it work, and it leaves I'm free to focus on Photoshop next time.

I'm rather no-frills and quite a big fan of grey myself, mind you. And I agree that in these days of aggregation the design of a site may be less important than one would like it to be. Perhaps you should just take my note as an appreciation of the previous effort.

I did, too :) Thanks :)
